Antero de Quental
Antero de Quental (1842-1891), born in Ponta Delgada, is one of the most eminent figures of Portuguese culture. He was a poet, philosopher, essayist, and political thinker. He was part of the brilliant group of young intellectuals that became infamously known as the “70s Generation”. From his vast collection of works, some worthy of mention are: Sonetos Completos, Odes Modernas, Primaveras Românticas, and his unforgettable intervention during the “Conferências do Casino”, Causas da Decadência dos Povos Peninsulares.AZORIAN AUTHOR
Vitorino Nemésio
Vitorino Nemésio (1901-1978) was born in Terceira and is recognized as one of the greatest Portuguese writers from the 20th century. He was a teacher at the Faculty of Letters at the University of Lisbon, he wrote for the magazine Presença, and was a director of the Revista de Portugal. He was a poet, novelist, essayist, chronicler, and literary critic. In 1966, he was awarded the National Literary Prize. From his collection of works, some worthy of mention are: Mau Tempo no Canal, Corsário das Ilhas, Poesia Reunida (1916 -1940).AZORIAN AUTHOR
Natália Correia
Natália Correia, born on September 13th, 1923, on the island of São Miguel, is the eternal personification of rebellion and freedom. At 11 years old, she moved to Lisbon with her mother, having lived in the capital until her death, in 1993. She was a poet, playwright, novelist, essayist, chronicler, editor, translator, and between the years of 1980 and 1991, she was member of the Portuguese National Assembly, having intervened politically on behalf of the arts and culture, in the defence of human rights and women's rights.
