Segredos Estilhaçados

Author: Hadley Freeman

Hadley Freeman knew that her grandmother Sara was living in France when Hitler began to gain power, but rarely did anyone in her family bring it up.
Long after her grandmother’s death, Hadley found a shoebox hidden in her closet containing photographs of her ancestor with a mysterious stranger, a cryptic Red Cross telegram, and a drawing signed by Picasso.
Faced with this discovery, Freeman embarked on a decade-long quest to discover the meaning of these memories, which took her from Picasso’s archives in Paris to a secret room on a farm in the Auvergne, and from Long Island to Auschwitz.
Freeman puts the pieces of the puzzle of her family’s past together, discovering more about the lives of her grandmother and her three brothers, Jacques, Henri and Alex. Their stories, sometimes ordinary, sometimes surprising, reveal the wide range of experiences lived by Eastern European Jews during the Holocaust.
