Tudo o que Comemos Conta

Why is it that whenever we ingest a lot of salt, we feel the need to drink liquids? Our body is always seeking balance. And few diets are as effective as the macrobiotic diet. More than a cuisine, it is a whole way of life, which develops harmony between our yin (gentle, reflective, and aesthetic) and yang (active, dynamic, and outgoing) sides.
By choosing well the foods we eat on a daily basis, we can even use them to rebalance the two poles. If we feel tired, we opt for an energetic meal, if we feel nervous, a calming drink, and so on – the possibilities are endless. What’s more, we can achieve these goals while taking all the pleasure out of making (and enjoying) more than one hundred delicious recipes based on whole grains, vegetables, legumes, seaweed, seeds, oilseeds, and seasonal fruit. Emotions thank you. So does your health.
Geninha Horta Varatojo – director of the Macrobiotic Institute of Portugal (IMP) and one of the main teachers of macrobiotics in the country – offers here all the tools for those who want to get started in macrobiotic cooking, or for those who already know and want to improve.
There is no shortage of suggestions, from soups to desserts and even drinks and home remedies.
