Media, Europa e Cidadãos

Author: Isabel Simões-Ferreira

Having as object of study the Portuguese coverage of the European Parliament elections, this work analyzes several key aspects of the intercommunication process among several social actors: politicians, press advisors, journalists, social network users and voters. At a time when we are witnessing a disintermediation of information, journalists gain a greater responsibility. The desirable cultivation of a transnational democracy therefore requires politicians who do not turn the race for the European Parliament into pseudo-events and a media that does not depoliticize the masses or weaken their right to democratic participation.
